Your videos · Your network
Turn your home videos into a TV channel.
The videos on your Synology NAS can become a private lineup that keeps moving. Open Awesome IPTV and tune in to what is playing now.
Before you start
- A compatible Synology NAS running DSM 7 and permission to install packages.
- Home videos or other media you are authorized to use, in folders the package can read.
- Awesome IPTV on an Apple TV, iPhone, iPad, or Mac on the same local network as the NAS.
The NAS server and Apple player are two parts of the setup. See Playback Access pricing for the player and Synology downloads for server package availability.
Build your private channel
Install the NAS server
Get the Awesome IPTV Server package matching your NAS architecture: Intel/AMD, 64-bit ARM, or 32-bit ARM. In DSM, open Package Center, choose Manual Install, and follow the package installation steps.
Choose your Live TV folder
Open Awesome IPTV Server from DSM. Choose a folder for Live TV. Synology Photos Shared Space is the default starting point; you can choose another folder the package can read.
Optional Movies and Series folders provide separate on-demand libraries. Keep the library folders separate and non-overlapping.
Save and build the catalog
Select Save and build catalog. Let the server index your videos. The package reads your originals; it does not move, rename, or delete them.
Request access from your Apple device
Open Awesome IPTV on the same local network. Allow local-network access if your device asks. On Your TV Sources, find the nearby server and select Request access.
Approve the device in DSM
Return to Awesome IPTV Server in DSM. Under Connection requests, approve the device you recognize. Each approved device gets its own access, which you can revoke from Connected devices.
Tune in
Open the approved source in the app and choose Live TV. The schedule advances even when no one is watching, so a channel opens at its current point. Use Movies or Series when you want to choose a specific item on demand.
If something goes wrong
The NAS does not appear in the app
Confirm the package is running and both devices are on the same local network. Guest Wi-Fi, network isolation, or separate subnets can prevent discovery. Check local-network permission in your Apple device's settings.
No videos appear after indexing
Confirm you selected the intended folder and that the AwesomeIPTV package account can read it. Being able to browse a folder with your own DSM account does not give the package the same access.
The app is waiting for approval
Open the server in DSM and check Connection requests. Approve the matching device, then return to the app. If the old request is no longer valid, request access again.
Live TV opens in the middle of a video
This is how the continuous channel works: you join the current schedule. Put videos in the separate Movies or Series library if you want to start a selected title from the beginning.

Give your videos a place on TV.
Start with one small home-video folder, finish indexing, and approve one device before expanding your library.
